About Us
Meet the Staff
Boys find real help at Allegany Boys Camp because of the people who work here.
Your boy can learn best when he’s led by cheerful, confident people who really believe in him. So we screen all staff by character first. Then we teach them the specialized skills they need to work with boys. Showing boys the love of Jesus is the passion behind everything we do. Our staff aren’t here to grow their careers. They’re here to make sure your boy gains the skill and self-knowledge to build a life that works.

History
The therapeutic camping approach boys experience here started in the 1940s with the work of Campbell Loughmiller.
While working at a children’s summer camp, Loughmiller noticed surprising improvements in the anti-social behavior of emotionally disturbed children. He drew on his years of experience in social science to develop a residential camp program for boys with serious emotional challenges.
Over the following years, Loughmiller and his team would refine the program as they worked with a total of more than 600 boys. The resulting program is surprisingly simple and effective.
Allegany Boys Camp carries on these principles on 350 acres of lovely woods just outside Oldtown, Maryland. The camp began when Bald Eagle Boys Camp in Mill Hall, PA ran out of capacity. We bought the site of the former New Dominion School in 2009 and were ready for our first campers in 2011.
We Believe
As Christians, we believe…
There is one true God who deserves all our praise.
God created the world and everything in it in six days. (Genesis 1–2)
God reveals His Word in the Bible, which is an infallible guide for our lives.
Death entered the world because of sin—both physical death and the death of our perfect relationship with God and each other.
But God loved us so much He forgave us and sent His only Son to die on the cross to win eternal life for everyone who believes in Him. (John 3:16)
God’s amazing gift of grace has led us to camp. His love and forgiveness have transformed us and filled our hearts with love for others. We are passionate about seeing relationships restored and broken people healed.
